CPR Fairbanks Morse B Unit Set of Builders Plates
When Canadian Pacific Railway discontinued their transcontinental passenger service, they placed almost all of their inventory through their 'CP Bygones' shop opened in the mid 1970's. This seller purchased this plate directly from CP Bygones and has stored it for over 40 years. The CP Bygones store tag is shown with the catalogue item number in photo #3.
This is a CLC (Canadian Locomotive Company) set of plates from CPR 'B' unit #4458, class DFB-16b with serial number 2725, built in 1953. Photo #4 taken by Bruce Chapman from the Bill Sanderson collection. It was converted to a CP robot control car #14 in 1972 (see photo #5) and retired in October 1984.
This set of plates are in excellent shape. It is rare to see plates not only in this shape but with almost no damage around the mounting holes when it was removed. The plates are made of heavy sheet aluminum with stamped-in data and come complete with the 'Powered by Fairbanks Morse' bar plate. Rare to see the combined set available together and in this condition. Plates will be shipped insured with photos and a history sheet included.
Item will ship in heavy paper wrapper (and then boxed) as received from CPR in the 1970's with the CP Bygones catalog number on the wrapper. Item number in catalog was 16043 (see photo #6).
These plates are exceedingly rare to locate.
